All lower school students receive weekly visual arts and performing arts instruction. They receive an extended period of art, and two periods of music. Art includes exposure to art history through the Art Masterpiece program. The music program is performance-based and provides many opportunities for the students to develop confidence, poise, and ability through participation in music and drama productions. Additionally, students in grades two and three participate in Lower School Choir and grade four students have the opportunity to audition for Choristers, a choral program for grades four through eight.
Spanish instruction is once weekly for pre kindergarten through grade two, and twice weekly for grades three and four. In addition to getting a start on learning a second language, students enjoy exploring the culture and history of Spanish-speaking countries. Students visit the lower school computer lab once a week for computer science class. A library period is also part of the lower school week.
Students receive weekly religion instruction, an inclusive program that emphasizes the value of diversity. Additionally, the school counselor visits each kindergarten through grade four classroom weekly to teach Second Steps, a program that emphasizes empathy training, problem solving, conflict resolution, and the development of social skills.
Physical education classes are three times a week for all students. The goal of the program is to help them develop the necessary skills to participate in games and age-appropriate sports activities, and to teach them the importance of exercise to lifelong fitness and health.
